BDA National Results - Revised

22 November 2007
BDA National Finals, which took place this weekend (Sat 6th & Sun 7th October 2007) at the National Water Sport Centre, Holme Pierre Pont, Nottingham. - Conditions for both days were very calm and mild.

Most of the teams were hampered by the fact that they were missing paddlers who had still not returned from representing the GB Squads at the World Championship in Australia. The main teams to suffer being Kingston & Thames.

As you are probably aware a strong Batchworth team dominated the Open Class events, taking the Oliver Cox Trophy for their combined wins at 200mtrs, 1000mtrs and the Blue Riband 500mtrs, which also awarded them the HKTA Trophy.

A weakened Thames Taniwhas proved to be the best team in the Mixed and Ladies competitions, winning both the 200mtrs & 500mtrs events in both classes and coming 3rd overall in the Open Class, however they surprised everyone by beating Amathus Open in the 500mtrs Open Class to take 2nd place behind Batchworth.

Amathus DBC (current BDA Premier League Winners for 2007) took the overall Club Prize for the most points from all race classes, narrowly beating Thames. In amongst their achievements for this award, was another victory in the overall U18´s Class for Amathus U18´s, 2 x 2nd places and 1 x 3rd for the Open Team, 2 x 2nd places for the Women´s team and a 3rd place overall in the Mixed class competition. - In fact Amathus took the most teams to this competition with 7 competing in the Open category (4 of these being junior teams).

Three River Serpents were another team to mention in the Mixed class coming 2nd in both 200mtrs & 500mtrs to take 2nd place overall and 4th in 500mtrs Open and only very narrowly missing out on catching Amathus in 3rd.

Also within the Open Category Execalibre, enjoyed arguably one of their best seasons by returning with 1st place in the Plate 200m, 2nd Place in the 500m and the overall Plate Trophy for their combined score in this competition.

BA Hurricanes U18 team are worthy of a mention, as they followed up their tri-series of wins against Amathus DJ´s (U18´s BDA League winners) earlier in the season, with a well earned 1st place in the 200mtrs U18 class.

And finally both Typhoon Tigers (who are the BDA Standard League winners for 2007 Season) and Thames Raging Dragons performed very admirably, with both making the Major Finals in the Open Classes and Typhoon also making the Mixed Class Major Finals. Typhoon for their part received a trophy for being the most improved crew for 2007.

For further details see the list of results on the BDA website (PDF document).
