Commission Chairs and Members Needed

27 August 2017
Are you interested in sharing your knowledge with others? Or in gaining new skills through volunteering that you can convert to real work experience? Or are you simply public-service minded and a lover of our sport and want to join a group of motivated volunteers to work on various issues in dragon boat sport?

The EDBF is looking for Chairholders for the Marketing and Media Commission, the Women’s Commission and the Youth Development Commission and for volunteers to staff these commissions.

Marketing and Media is responsible for increasing the profile of the sport, creating sponsorship packages and works together with the web team. We’re looking for someone with vision to lead the team, ideally with commercial marketing experience who can translate that experience to income generation for the EDBF. We’re also looking for a number of members to support those efforts as well as to generate and manage content for the EDBF website and social media applications.

The Women’s Commission is a new commission within the EDBF and will work to ensure that women have equal access to the sport in all areas: participation, management, coaching, executive development, etc. We’re looking for a female leader whose initial focus will be on ensuring EDBF compliance with IOC guidelines for women in sport as we pursue (together with the IDBF) membership in the Olympic family. The main focus of the commission will be on developing women participants and women leaders in the sport. While the EDBF has good participation numbers for women, to truly reach equality within the sport, the visibility and impact of women athletes, coaches and other leaders needs to be increased. Commission members are needed to develop specific areas within women and the dragon boat sport including women’s leadership, women’s health, coaching female athletes, etc.

Youth Development is also a new commission within the EDBF and will look at increasing youth participation in the sport as well as transfer and retention to the adult racing categories. The commission will also look at sports psychology and physiology as it relates to young athletes and developing guidelines for safe sport for youth. The ideal chairholder will be someone with experience and an affinity with youth sport and an active youth dragon boat program in their country. Commission members should have an interest in the future of the sport – how can the EDBF develop young paddlers and retain them in the transition to premier sport?

These positions will fall under one of the EDBF Vice Presidents who will provide guidance and help steer the commission´s work. For the time being, these commissions will fall under Kim Beckwith as the EDBF Board develops the new commission framework.

If you are interested in membership in one of these commissions, please send a brief motivation letter, including any relevant experience you have had, to Kim Beckwith, Vice President, at kim.edbf@xs4all.nl with a copy to Julie Doyle, Secretary General, at info@acaunsolutions.com. Deadline: 30 September 2017.
